Bhubaneswar: In a major break through the Khurda excise sleuths and Cuttack flying squad officials Thursday seized brown sugar from Bhubaneswar and the adjacent places, in separate raids conducted Wednesday night. In this connection two drug peddlers have been arrested and interrogation is on.
However, the seizure was of a small quantity but the market value of the seized brown sugar is estimated to be more than Rs 1 lakh.
According to excise sources, similar raids will be carried out in other parts of the city.
A man was arrested with brown sugar worth over Rs 1 crore at Arad Bazaar in Balasore district May 28 and following the inputs the officials were able to nab the two. However, the brown sugar was seized by excise officials from the house of the accused identified as SK Rafik.
