2 arrested in police attack case

Bhubaneswar, june 9: Laxmisagar police arrested two persons Tuesday for attacking a police team that had gone to rescue a man in Haldipadia basti. The accused were identified as Jitendra Korada, 18, and Mamta Nayak, 35, both of Haldipadia basti. The police team led by SI Ashok Kumar Hansda faced the wrath of slum dwellers Monday after police reportedly refused to act on complaints of residents that a man had allegedly kidnapped a girl from the slum. Subsequently, one Santosh Jena was tied to a garbage bin by slum dwellers. When the police went to rescue him, they were beaten up by the slum dwellers. A case against 25 slum dwellers was registered Monday, DCP Satyabrata Bhoi had said. The two arrested Tuesday were booked under sections 147 and 148 (rioting), 341 and 342 (wrongful confinement), 323, 324 and 325 (causing voluntarily hurt), 336 and 337 (endangering life), 332 (deterring public servant from duty), 294 (obscene act), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 149 (unlawful assembly) of IPC and produced in court.
