Oupada: Two brothers were arrested for allegedly attacking their mother, three sisters and brother-in-law over a property dispute at Harichandanpur village of Fatepur panchayat near Oupada in Balasore district.
The injured family members have lodged two written complaints with police.
The accused have been identified as Himanshu Mohanty and Sushant Mohanty.
According to the complaint, Sabita along with her three daughters — Mitarani, Mamata and Kamala — and son-in-law Parsuram Mahalik were at home at 7 pm December 26 when Himanshu along with Sushant and their wives broke open the door and barged into the house with lethal weapons. They attacked five of them, it was alleged.
Being scared, everyone shouted aloud for help. They did not even spare Kamala who is pregnant. Sabita who sustained grievous injuries on her head fell unconscious after bleeding profusely.
After receipt of information from Kamala, Oupada police rushed to the spot, rescued the injured persons and admitted them to Khaira hospital.
Police also seized weapons from the duo’s possession and arrested them. They have been forwarded to court.
