Boipariguda: Two police personnel were critically injured in a road accident Sunday while chasing suspected ganja smugglers under Boipariguda police station in Koraput district. The injured have been identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector Bishnu Madkami, 45, and Constable Dambaru Challan, 40, attached to the Ramagiri police outpost under Boipariguda police limits.
According to Inspector-In-Charge Dambarudhar Batria of Boipariguda police station, the two personnel were chasing two suspected ganja smugglers. The officers were riding separate motorcycles, while the suspects were travelling on another motorcycle.
The chase began from Ramagiri and continued for about 11 km. The accident occurred near Mathapada Nursery at Bulania Ghat road when the police personnel reportedly lost control of their motorcycles and collided with each other, causing both officers to fall and sustain serious injuries.

They were first rushed to the community health centre at Boipariguda and later shifted to Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital in Koraput for advanced treatment. No case had been registered in connection with the incident till the filing of this report. Further investigation is underway, police said.
