Jagatsinghpur: An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) and a constable were suspended for allegedly assaulting a youth inside Jagatsinghpur Sadar police station.
ASI Rabindra Senapati and constable Siba Jani were suspended as per the direction of Jagatsinghpur Superintendent of Police Prakash R.
According to a complaint, Lingaraj Das, a resident of Odiso village near Jagatsinghpur had gone to the local sarpanch’s residence along with his friend September 12.
Lingaraj said the two policemen illegally detained and tortured him, alleging that he misbehaved with the woman sarpanch of Odiso panchayat.
Das said the policemen abused and assaulted him at the station.
He said the policemen threatened to implicate him under the SC and ST Atrocity Act for misbehaving with the sarpanch, who belongs to SC category.
