Chandahandi: Two minor boys including an eight-year-old son of an ASHA worker died while hundreds were affected by fever in Belapati village of Jamadarpada panchayat under this block in Nabarangpur district.
According to reports, people started falling ill from August 13 in the village. The number of affected persons shot up to 100 within next few days. Following this, a medical team including malaria technicians was sent to the village to determine the cause of the outbreak. At least 18 people of the village were tested malaria +ve after blood examinations during last four days, a report said.
Later, a mobile health unit was sent to the village and free medicines distributed among villagers, Dr Basant Kumar Sadangi, the head of the medical team said.
Meanwhile, locals demanded distribution of free bed nets by the administration as Chandahandi block is known as malaria afflicted region of the district. PNN
