Berhampur: District collector Premchandra Choudhury Monday conducted a surprise raid on two medicine stores near MKCG Medical College and Hospital here and sealed them for operating without valid license.
Seven persons working in the stores were detained for interrogation.
According to sources, the medicines stores were constructed by illegally pulling down the walls of MKCG Medical College and Hospital. Several complaints were made in the regard but the shopkeepers paid no heed to them and continued running the shops illegally.
Acting on a tip-off, the district collector accompanied by the sub-collector, drug inspector and tehsildar along with a police team conducted a surprise raid on the two shops. The shopkeepers failed to produce licenses and other documents.
Later, the drug inspector inspected the medicines and found most of them to have expired. Officials verified all the medicines in stock and subsequently sealed the stores. Seven persons engaged in the shops were detained.
They were taken to Baidyanathpur police station for interrogation, IIC Ajay Mishra said. A case was registered and an investigation into the matter is on, he added. PNN
