Aska: Two youths were tied to a pole and thrashed by angry public after they were held passing lewd comments on a girl Saturday. The youths were subsequently tonsured and later handed over to the police, sources said.
The incident was reported from Hindol village under Kabisuryanagar police limits in Ganjam district. Police rescued the two youths and admitted them to a hospital. Later, they were arrested and produced in a court. They were remanded in judicial custody after the court rejected their bail pleas.
The two were identified as Susant Kanhar and Saroj Jena from the same village. The police have also registered separate cases against the locals based on a complaint from Susant and Saroj. In their complaint they accused the locals of abducting, assaulting and torturing them. Accordingly, police registered a case and launched a probe while no villagers were arrested yet, IIC Bibhasta Kumar Pradhan said.
According to sources, the youths followed some girls. They also passed some lewd comments on them. Meanwhile, they were spotted by some locals who overpowered them and tied them to a pole in the village where they were tonsured and assaulted in full public view. However, they claimed that they had gone to the village over some work and refuted the allegations. PNN
