Bhubaneswar: Trying to garner support of the masses ahead of 2019 elections, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) government Tuesday set a target to construct 20 lakh pucca houses in the state by 2018 end.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who convened a review meeting in this regard at the Secretariat, directed the officials to complete the pucca house projects by December end.
The state government had launched the project in 2015-16 with an aim to convert all kachha houses into pucca houses in a phased manner.
Officials who attended the review meeting said 14.11 lakh pucca houses have already been constructed in the state and the remaining houses would be completed in 12 months.
The state government has also decided to create a mobile application and enlist the beneficiaries to maintain transparency in allotment procedure.
Patnaik has issued a directive to ensure free and fair selection of beneficiaries.
