Bhubaneswar: At least 22 kitchen rooms (Roshaghara) of Ananta Basudev Temple in the city were gutted after a major fire broke out at the temple premises in wee hours Friday.
As per reports, locals spotted smoke emitting from the temple premises and informed the fire brigade at around 4 AM. Three fire tenders immediately rushed to the temple and doused the fire. Since the kitchen rooms were thatched, the fire engulfed the entire complex in few minutes.
While the exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, authorities are also yet to assess the amount of damage caused to the temple property.
Hundreds of devotees throng the famous Ananta Basudev temple situated near the Lord Lingaraj’s Bindusagar tank to have Abhada sold here.
The fire mishap is likely to affect the sale and distribution of the Prasad.
While in 2008, a similar fire mishap caused extensive damage to the temple property, minor fire incidents have also been occurring from time to time.
