Bhubaneswar, March 20: The Bhubaneswar Puri Transport Services Limited (BPTSL), which operates city buses, Friday decided to develop eight origin destination (OD) terminals in the city.
The new OD terminals would come up at Nandankanan, Chandaka, Niladri Vihar, Salia Sahi, Kalinga Vihar, AIIMS, Pandara and near Sai temple Tankapani Road.
The BPTSL has also decided to send a proposal to housing and urban development department for procurement of a fleet of 234 buses. Notably, 180 BPTSL buses operate in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri, Khurda and that of the surrounding areas are run by Dream Team Shahara (DTS).
The decision was taken at the governing body meeting of BPTSL Friday in which it was also decided to identify 10 new routes in the said areas to boost intra-city bus services. The meeting was chaired by BPTSL chairman and mayor Ananta Narayan Jena.
A high level committee will also be formed to monitor city bus services and ensure quality service to citizens. The DTS has been asked to intensify raids in city buses to nab ticketless travellers. “In view of upcoming Nabakalebar, we have decided to increase the existing fleet of buses and build OD terminals at the earliest,” Jena said.
“Tenders for construction of OD terminals would be floated within a month,” BPTSL general manager Jagabandhu Sahu said.
