Bhubaneswar, Jan 10: The government has set a target of providing 24×7 power supply to every household in the country by 2019, Union power minister Piyush Goyal said through a video clip that was shown at the OTV Foresight 2015 event here Saturday.
The Centre has set a target of doubling power generation by doubling coal production by 2019, Goyal said.
The target can be achieved only through the coordination between the Centre and state governments.
A whopping `3 lakh crore will be invested in raising infrastructure for transmission and distribution of power to ensure 24×7 supply to every household, he said.
On politics, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) national president Anurag Thakur urged youth to come into public life. “Greater youth participation in politics is the need of the hour,” he said. NCP MP Supriya Sule encouraged girls to join politics to serve the nation.
Congress leader Sachin Pilot spoke of leadership, saying that “getting a place in the hearts and minds of the people through hard work is true leadership.”
Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Prasad Harichandan spoke on a topic related to the chit-fund and mining scam and claimed that there was a nexus between the BJD and the BJP on this. However, BJP legislature party leader Basant Panda held the state government responsible for the big scams.
However, BJD spokesperson Pratap Deb said scams are taking place because of loopholes in the law. “It is the job of the Centre to amend laws to prevent scams. Congress and BJP have taken turns to rule at the Centre while we are a regional party maintaining equidistance from both,” he said.
