Koraput: Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital (SLNMCH) in Koraput will get 25 additional MBBS seats, taking its annual intake from 125 to 150.

The increase in intake will come into effect from the 2027-28 academic year, an official said Saturday. The Centre has directed the National Medical Commission (NMC) to take necessary steps in this regard through an order issued October 29, the official said.

“However, the increase in seats will be subject to compliance with all existing rules and regulatory requirements. The decision was taken after the Union government examined the application, documents and other details submitted by the medical college,” the official added.

The move is expected to create more opportunities in medical education, expand the scope of medical training and help produce more doctors in future, Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling said.
