Kalyansinghpur: As many as 25 people, including women from three villages under Kalyansinghpur block in Rayagada district, left for Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh in search of work Sunday.
The migration of the villagers outside the state has highlighted the continuing distress migration from the tribal-dominated region.
The matter came to light when around 25 residents from Debagiri Nuasahi, Panasapadar and Danusahi villages under the Sadar panchayat of this block were seen leaving for the Vijayawada– Kakinada region of Andhra Pradesh to work as daily wage labourers.
According to Mandangi Parbati, a labourer, they have been promised Rs 750 per day along with free food and accommodation to harvest black gram on farmlands owned by a person identified as Panasa Chandrasekhar in the Kakinada area.
The work is expected to continue for 20 to 25 days.
With no employment available locally, they said they were compelled to leave their homes to support their families.
Among those who migrated are Shanti Kadraka, Singari Palaka and Mandangi Parbati.
