Bhuban: A raging inferno gutted 28 rooms of 20 families at Kendudhipa village of Dighi panchayat under this block of Dhenkanal district, in the early hours Thursday.
The fire, which first broke out in Nrusingha Nayak’s house due to a suspected short circuit, engulfed the neighbouring houses one after another.
On being informed, a fire tender reached the village and doused the flames but not before everything was reduced to ashes.
Family members were fast asleep when the mishap occurred, and the flame was so intense that occupants of the houses could not save anything.
In the inferno, two rooms of Ranjan Kumar Hati, one of Phula Swain, two of Karunakar Swain, one of Kanhu Charan Swain, two of Kulamani Swain, two of Madhav Swain, one of Pratima Swain, two of Rabi Parida, two of Ashok Parida, one of Anant Parida, one of Binod Parida, one of Bipin Parida, one of Nrusingha Nayak, one of Suresh Nayak, one of Abhimanyu Nayak, two of Kanak Hati, one of Utsav Hati, one of Chitrakala Hati, one of Damayanti Parida and two rooms of Sadananda Parida burnt to ashes.
