Sambalpur: Police Sunday claimed to have cracked the sensational murder bid on superintendent of Sambalpur circle jail, Brahmananda Sahoo, as they arrested three persons in this connection.

Accused Ajay Singh alias Badamundia and Krushna Chandra Majhi alias Raja of Modipara and Nilakantha Nanda alias Doctor of Hirakud town were arrested three days after the incident.

A Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle, a Honda Activa scooter and a knife with which Sahoo was stabbed were seized from their possession, Dhanupali IIC Prakash Toppo said. A case was registered in this connection and the accused were produced in a court.

They were remanded in judicial custody after the magistrate rejected their bail pleas. Police during investigation found out that the trio tried to kill Sahoo after two criminals serving imprisonment promised them `10,000 and an expensive mobile phone to each of them in return for murdering Sahoo.

The incident occurred when Sahoo after attending his duty came out of the jail premises to go home at 8 pm August 3. The area was dark and he was standing near a dustbin outside the jail when three youths came on a motorbike and demanded money from him.
He outright rejected their demand but the trio beat him up and stabbed him on his belly. Later, they snatched away his mobile phone and fled.

Dhanupali rescued Sahoo in a critical condition and admitted him to the district headquarters hospital. Later, he was shifted to Burl-based VIMSAR after his condition worsened.

Police then registered a case and conducted raids to arrest the accused under the supervision of superintendent of police Akhileshwar Singh. However, they failed to trace any of the culprits.

The accused were finally arrested after police started tracking their mobile phones. The trio was arrested and brought over to the police station where they confessed to their crime.

They admitted to have committed the crime on the direction of two hardcore prisoners in the jail in exchange for money and mobile phones.
Sujit Karna of Modipara and Sonu Ghosh of Brajarajnagar in Jharsuguda are currently lodged in the jail for their involvement in murders and other crimes in Sambalpur and Jharsuguda districts.

Ajay met the accused when he was earlier lodged in the jail in connection with a separate crime. Sujit and Sonu promised Ajay to get him released on bail if he gets the superintendent killed through contract killers. Ajay agreed to their proposal and hatched a plan with Nilakantha of Hirakud and Krushna Chandra of Modipara to eliminate Sahoo. PNN
