Nabarangpur: Bad road connectivity has been acting as a hindrance in shifting patients from remote pockets of Nabarangpur district to hospitals. With ambulance failing to reach doorsteps, villagers carry patients on cots or slings to the vehicle which waits at the nearest motorable road.
In a fresh incident, as many as three of Patakhalia area under Chandahandi block of Nabarangpur district reportedly suffering from diarrhea and vomiting had to be carried on a bullock cart for 5 kms to an ambulance waiting on the motorable road, Saturday.
According to a source, three people of Patakhalia area were suffering from diarrhea and vomiting. As their condition deteriorated, the villagers contacted the 108 ambulance service. The ambulance, however, could not reach the village which lacks road connectivity and stood waiting about 5 km away on the main road.
With no option left, the three patients were carried on a bullock cart to access the ambulance. On reaching the main road, they were shifted to the ambulance which took them to Chandahandi Community Health Centre.
The three patients are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Doctors at the Community Health Centre informed that the three patients were given necessary treatment and their condition is stated to be stable now.
The Patakhalia area is cut off from the mainland as the muddy road and paddy fileds are the major obstacles. A motorable road is the long-standing demand of villagers. But neither the district administration nor the local MLA are taking necessary steps despite repeated requests.
The villagers said that they have been requesting the district administration for the facility for years but no measures have been taken to provide road connectivity to the villages. As a result of which the residents of the village have been facing untold miseries.
