Cuttack: Lalbagh police Sunday claimed to have arrested three members of a five-member gang involved in robbing cell phones in and around the city here.
Sagar Nayak of Harijan Sahi in Kafla Bazaar, Biju Nayak of Siddheswar Sahi and Suman Jena of Boula Square in Bidanasi area here have been arrested in connection with multiple cell phone robbery cases, deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Akhilesvar Singh said.
“We have recovered five cell phones from them and efforts are on to nab the two other members of the gang. The arrested have been produced in court,” he added.
According to Singh, the police crackdown came during investigation of a robbery case in Mohantypada here.
“Shiva Prasad Mohanty, a resident of Mohantypada here, had lodged a complaint with Lalbagh police alleging that some miscreants had struck his residence and decamped with his cell phone June 1. On the basis of his complaint, police registered a case (83/18),” the DCP said. A team comprising Lalbagh inspector in-charge Biswajit Mohanty and assistant sub-inspector BK Behera swung into action.
“We zeroed in on the trio after tracking the location of Mohanty’s stolen smartphone. This apart, the footages collected from a CCTV installed at Mohanty’s residence also substantiated the involvement of the trio in the heist,” Singh said. The trio has several cases registered against them with the police here, he added.
