Baripada: Three persons died and 20 others were injured after a private overturned at Balia Chhak after hitting a bike on National Highway-49 under Jharpokharia police limits in Mayurbhanj district.
According to reports, Satyanarayan Bera (30) of Rairangpur was carrying his aunt on his motorcycle to Baripada to inform his kin about death of his mother.
A private bus ‘Swarnalata’ was going from Baripada to Keonjhar. The bus hit the bike and then overturned. Satyanarayan and the helper of the bus died on the spot, while Satyanarayan’s aunt succumbed to her injuries at a hospital. Over 20 passengers of the bus were injured.
The driver of the bus fled the spot. The identity of the helper was yet to be ascertained.
The mishap triggered tension in the area with angry people staging a road blockade for three hours demanding compensation to the bereaved families.
With the help of the local people, firefighters admitted the injured to the district headquarters hospital.
Later, Jharpokharia police rushed to the spot and placated the angry mob.
8 critical in road mishap
Chhatrapur: Eight persons, including two women, were critically injured after a pick-up van they were travelling in overturned due to tyre burst near Palia Chhatrapur here in Ganjam district Sunday. Fire personnel from Chhatrapur rushed to the spot and rescued the passengers and admitted them to the Chhatrapur hospital. After primary treatment, the injured were shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur. The injured passengers were members of a Berhampur-based catering agency. They were returning to Berhampur after finishing catering work for a party in Tampara.
