Sambalpur: A three-year-old girl was allegedly raped on the campus of the district headquarters hospital (DHH) here Tuesday night.
A person was detained at the Town Police Station regarding this Tuesday night and the matter is being investigated. The police is awaiting the medical report to make the next move.
Speaking to Orissa POST, Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Dr Kalyan Kumar Gupta confirmed that the incident took place in the mother and children ward of the hospital.
He said the police had nabbed a man from the hospital campus last night regarding this. Doctors have already conducted medical examinations of both the victim and the suspected culprit but the medical report has not yet come.
Meanwhile, members of the Sambalpur district Child Welfare Committee (CWC) visited the district headquarters hospital Wednesday to meet the rape victim and her parents. They also enquired about the case as per provisions of the Child Protection Act.
The CWC assured that no stone will be left unturned to provide justice to the child.
The CWC said the victim was the eldest of the two children of her parents. The mother and her two children were staying in the hospital ward as the second child was sick and was admitted there.
They added that the parents of the victim originally hail from Angul district and stays in the Mudipara area of the city, as the father is employed in a roadside dhaba here.
The incident took place between 8 and 9 pm Tuesday night, while a doctor was visiting the ward. The mother was attending to the sick child and the victim was left unattended. She walked out of the ward and became a victim of the suspected rapist.
She was recovered by her mother from outside the ward. Her mother informed her father soon after she came to know of the incident from her daughter. It was then reported to the visiting doctor in the ward who took cognizance of the case and informed his superiors and the police. PNN
