Kendrapara: Panic struck the residents of Angulai village under Sadar police station in this district after about 30 poisonous snakes were found in a house Sunday.
According to sources, the house of Bhramarabar Swain is surrounded by agriculture fields. Fortunately, he didn’t reside in the house and only used it to store construction material. Swain came across the reptiles when he had been to the storeroom to fetch some construction material Sunday morning. He immediately made a phone call to snake helpline personnel of Bagada. As the news spread in the locality, a mad rush was seen at the spot.
Snake helpline personnel rescued about 20 snakes while about 10 reptiles managed to escape into the farmland during the operation. Branded Krait, Russell Viper and Cobras were among the snakes.
The rescued snakes were later released in a forest near Ramnagar under Mahakalapara forest range.
Such a huge number of poisonous snakes took shelter at the house as it remained unused for quite some days and most of the snake holes in the nearby farmland were submerged in rainwater, it was learnt. PNN
