Saraskana: In an untoward incident, as many as 34 inmates who were earlier put in quarantine have fled from a facility at Seemanta Mahavidyalaya of Jharapokharia area in Mayurbhanj district.
Two of the 34 inmates had fled Friday. In the meantime, 32 others have fled from the quarantine centre here.
The incident came to the fore after Saraskana Block Development Officer (BDO) lodged an FIR in this regard Sunday afternoon.
All the 34 inmates were West Bengal-returnees. A police case (No.-106/2021) has been registered against two of them. Acting on the FIR, police have launched a probe in this connection and initiated a manhunt as well, BDO Sangram Keshari Bhol expressed.

On being contacted, Mayurbhanj project director DRDA Bhabesh Kumar Nayak said, “I am aware of the fact that 32 more inmates have fled from Seemanta Mahavidyalaya quarantine centre. I have asked the BDO to lodge an FIR with local police against the 32 inmates.”
Notably, after a large number of COVID-19 cases were detected in West Bengal, surveillance activities were intensified by Mayurbhanj district administration in the bordering areas. The migrant workers returning from West Bengal are being put in quarantine.
