Utkal University organises 4-day induction programme for MJMC students

Bhubaneswar: A four-day-long Induction programme for Masters in Journalism & Mass Communication (MJMC) students of Utkal University was organised by the Post Graduate Department of Public Administration in Bhubaneswar between August 16-19, 2023.

During the inaugural address, eminent media personality and academician Professor Pratap Aditya Mishra said that newspapers played a crucial role in the Indian independence movement. Journalism is the triumph of truth over falsehood and the art of presenting truth objectively. He advised the students to practice journalism without fear or favour.

Speaking on the occasion, former Higher Education Secretary Partha Sarathi Mishra emphasised on the need for students to be trained according to the requirement of print, electronic and digital media industries. That is how they will be able to show their creative talent in the media and acquire the skills to face all the challenges easily, said Mishra.

Other guests opined on rigorous training for the new generation of journalists as they need to be made aware of their importance in the changing environment and unprecedented norms of media expansion, across all spheres and genres. Besides, publication of excellent quality textbooks was emphasised.

Professor Padmalaya Mahapatra and Assistant Professor Jyotirmayee Tudu spoke during the program chaired by the Head of the Department of Public Administration & Coordinator of MJMC Pratima Sarangi. Assistant Professor Hemanta Kumar Dash delivered the welcome address while Ramakanta Mahananda curated the event. A plantation program was also organised to mark the beginning of new entrants.
