Bolangir/Titlagarh, July 28: A court in Bolangir Friday convicted four persons for the murder of local BJD leader Abhimanyu Sahu and sentenced them to life imprisonment. Sahu was murdered in 2013.
Additional district and sessions judge (ADJ) Prasant Kumar Dash delivered the verdict that brought the four-year wait of his supporters and family to an end.
Sahu’s wife Tukuni, who is now a BJD MLA, and his father Jagabandhu welcomed the judgement. Tukuni, however, added that she still suspects that her husband’s murder was masterminded and intended to draw the chief minister’s attention to the possibility.
The prime accused Alok Das and accomplices Jagdish Bag, Santosh Rana and Naresh Singh have been arrested by the state crime branch and lodged in prison.
Alok has been ordered to serve five years in addition to life in prison and to pay a fine of Rs5,000. On default, he will have to undergo four more months in prison. Similarly, Jagdish, Santosh and Naresh have been asked to pay a fine of Rs20,000 each in addition to their prison terms. More P6
