4 including goldsmith arrested in Angul district over snatching of gold necklace

Angul: Talcher police have arrested four persons including a customer and a goldsmith in connection with a chain-snatching incident which took place under Talcher police limits in Angul district, a senior official informed Monday.

Sources said that police were investigating the chain-snatching case on the basis of an FIR lodged by Duryodhan Acharya, a resident of Talabeda village in this district. He had alleged that he and his wife had been going to their relative’s house at Nabamishra Colony on his two-wheeler around 11.40am July 18, when the snatching happened.

Two unidentified miscreants waylaid them and snatched the chain hanging from the neck of his wife. The miscreants then fled towards Talcher Bypass Chhak, Duryodhan had mentioned in the FIR. In their haste, the looters could only manage escape with a portion of the necklace.

During investigation, police found out that the one of the miscreants had given the stolen part of the necklace to his friend in Balasingha village to sell it. This friend had sold the necklace to a goldsmith for Rs 10,000, the official informed. Accordingly all the four were arrested for dealing with stolen material.
