Nayagarh/Bargarh: As many as four persons were killed and eight injured in separate road mishaps in Nayagarh and Bargarh districts.
In the first instance, two persons were killed and six sustained serious injuries after the car they were travelling in skidded off the road and rammed into a roadside tree near Janisahi under Daspalla police limits in Nayagarh district late Thursday night.
Sources said the incident occurred while the victims were returning from a marriage function in Khurda. The vehicle skidded off the road and hit a roadside tree after the driver lost balance on the wheels.
The intensity of the collision was so high that the vehicle got badly mangled, killing two passengers on the spot.
Passers-by alerted police who rescued the injured and rushed them to Daspalla community health centre (CHC). The injured were later shifted to a Bhubaneswar-based hospital for further treatment.
Police seized the bodies and sent them for post-mortem while a probe was on.
Similarly, two more persons died while two were injured after a vehicle carrying them collided head-on with another vehicle near Podamunda village on Bargarh-Bijepur road in this district Friday morning.
One of the deceased was identified as Rajendra Rout (55) of Jagabira village under Burla police limits in Sambalpur district while the identity of the other was yet to be established.
Sources said a tractor was stationary on the side of the road at Podamunda. Meanwhile, a trekker that happened to pass that way collided head-on with another vehicle after the drivers of both the vehicles lost balance due to the tractor on the road, leading to the mishap.
The passengers were immediately rushed to Bargarh district headquarters hospital (DHH) where doctor declared two brought dead. After primary treatment, the injured were shifted to Burla-based VSS Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR).
The bodies were seized and sent for post-mortem. Police registered a case and launched a probe.
