Ambabhona: People of a few villages under Ambabhona block in Bargarh district will be displaced due to a wildlife conservation project. The residents will be rehabilitated as per rehabilitation norms of the central government.
The forest department has identified 410 families for displacement. A public hearing on the issue was held at the village Friday. It was learnt that 410 families will be displaced for the project.
The public hearing was presided over by the DFO of Hirakud wildlife conservation project, Anshuprabha Das.
The public hearing was held on displacement issue for the people living in Kurumkel, Rengali, Bhuthuli and Balijori on the Hirakud river basti area.
Tehsildar Sitaram Bhoi, BDO Alfrance Bilung, ADM Naveen Kumar Patel, sub-collector Subhendra Kumar Samal, Ambhabhona livestock inspector, range officer Dilip Kumar Dhal and some former people’s representatives explained people about the provisions of the central rehabilitation.
This was the last public hearing on their displacement. People of all these villages have to leave their homes and homestead land. It may be noted here that people of all these villages had earlier been displaced by Hirakud dam project.
They were settled near Barpahad forest. However, their villages were again identified as part of a tiger conservation project.
As per the rehabilitation scheme, each displaced family will be provided financial assistance of Rs 15 lakh while basic facilities like education, healthcare, communication and drinking water will be provided to these people, officials said.
