Jatni: A 42-year-old man was stabbed to death allegedly by one of his neighbours over past enmity at Raghunath Nagar under Jatni police limits here Friday.
Police have registered a murder case after receiving a complaint in this regard from victim Rakesh Tripathy’s mother Toladevi Tripathy.
In her complaint, Toladevi has alleged that her neighbour Siddheshwar Sahu, 55, and three of Sahu’s family members killed Rakesh by stabbing him repeatedly.
According to the locals, Rakesh and Siddheswar’s families have been in collision course for last several years over land dispute. The Friday’s incident occurred when an argument ensued between Rakesh and Siddheshwar in the morning.
“The argument took an ugly turn when Siddheshwar stabbed Rakesh at least four times. Some locals rushed a profusely bleeding Rakesh to Khurda district headquarters hospital. However, he was declared dead on arrival,” said a resident of Jagannath Nagar.
According to the residents, Siddheshwar also sustained injuries in the bloody quarrel.
Meanwhile, assistant commissioner of police PK Rout and officials of Jatni police visited Raghunath Nagar and launched a probe into the incident. “We have kept an eye on Siddheshwar who is now undergoing treatment at Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar. We have also detained his son in connection with the incident,” said an official of Jatni police.
