Bhubaneswar: The Temple City was adjudged one of the cleanest cities in eastern part of India during the Swachh Survekshan, 2017. In order to further improve its status, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Tuesday came out with 15 new toilet complexes in various categories including hybrid, public and community types. The initiatives coincided with the celebration of the three-day 42nd Local Self-Government Day (LSGD).
BMC, the biggest corporation of the state, had 35 projects on day-1 including 21 inaugurations and 14 foundation stone laying ceremonies across its North Zone. This year, the three days would be distributed among three administrative zones of BMC to have all the new projects scheduled for three days. The 35 projects would cost BMC Rs 9.61 crore.
TOILETS: 15
Inauguration of various toilet projects include a five-seater hybrid toilet near XIMB, four-seater community toilet near Sion Shramik Basti, five-seater hybrid toilet at SBI ATM Square Niladri Vihar, six-seater community toilet near Ishaneswar temple at Buddha Park, five-seater hybrid toilet near DAV School Chandrasekharpur, six-seater community toilet at Sabara Sahi Gadakana, seven-seater hybrid toilet at railway market Mancheswar, five-seater hybrid toilet at Laxmivihar Crossing, 10-seater hybrid toilet near Jaydev Vihar Square, five-seater hybrid toilet opposite Prabhuji English Medium School, public toilets near Rasulgarh truck parking area and in front of Mancheswar Police Station, five-seater hybrid toilet near Durga Mandap Mancheswar, public toilets at Hanspal and Pandra.
PARKS: 11
The civic body has given emphasis on various parks across North Zone area. While on Day One of the LSGD-2017 celebrations, one park was inaugurated at VSS Nagar, foundation stones were laid for 10 other parks in order to provide recreational and smart lifestyle to citizens of all age groups.
Foundation stones were laid for parks at Maitree Vihar, BDA EWS Colony Chandrasekharpur, Niladri Vihar BDA-Housing Board Sector III, Sailashree Vihar VIM-95, VIM-162 and VIM-242. Similarly at Prashanti Vihar, foundation stones were laid for two parks at LP-560 and LP-189 respectively. While a foundation stone was also laid for a park at New Government Colony, another park will come up inside Vani Vihar campus near F and G type quarters, respectively.
COMMUNITY CENTRES: 2
In order to provide common meeting place to local communities, a community centre was inaugurated at Prashanti Vihar Tuesday, while a foundation stone was laid for another community centre at BDA Colony, Chandrasekharpur.
POND RENOVATION: 2
Water bodies have become the cooling spots for the local environment as urban areas are increasingly becoming concrete jungles. In order to preserve traditional water bodies, the civic body has undertaken a massive programme under which Bhotapada tank and Ugalamani tank at Chakeisiani were inaugurated.
BURIAL/CREMATION GROUNDS: 2
The BMC has not only devised various development projects for citizens of the city, it has also taken several measures to care about the dead. It renovated a crematorium at Gadakana while a foundation stone was laid near Banafula Basti in Ward No. 2.
OTHERS: 3
In order to provide organised and disciplined vending space, a vending zone was inaugurated Tuesday for local vendors in Pandra so that they would have a cleaner business zone for them.
While a foundation stone was laid for the construction of the office building for North Zone office of BMC at Chandasekharpur, another foundation stone was laid for a day care centre for senior citizens in VSS Nagar.
