Cuttack: The Silver City Tuesday woke up to a major fire that broke out in a Maruti Suzuki outlet at Pratapnagari in Sadar police limits here.
According to fire services personnel, the ground floor of the three-storey showroom, which houses a workshop, driving training corridor and spare parts outlet, was reduced to cinders.
“Nine fire tenders took at least five hours to contain the blaze. Prima facie, it seems that electric sparks in the spare parts outlet have caused the fire,” Buxi Bazaar fire officer Pradeep Kumar Rout told Orissa POST, adding combustible stuff like lubricant, plywood fittings and other petroleum products at the ground floor has fuelled the fire.
The security guard of the retail outlet spotted the smoke emanating from the ground floor around 6.15am and informed the store manager who called the Buxi Bazaar fire services personnel. Later, fire brigades from CDA, Chauliaganj and Bhubaneswar also pitched in
Meanwhile, showroom’s HR manager KC Mohapatra lodged a complaint with the Sadar police, sources said.
