Khurda,: Tension prevailed at Samantarapur area here Monday after a violent clash broke out between two groups while having picnic during zero night celebration Sunday that left five persons injured.
A youth was allegedly abducted while five motorcycles were burnt and a car and a van were ransacked during the clash between Samantarapur and Uparsahi. While police personnel were deployed in the area to thwart any untoward incident, search operations are on to rescue the abducted youth.
According to sources, youths from Saguanbagicha, Samantarapur, Uparsahi and Thengahat were having picnic near Monarch Palace Sunday night.
Amid the picnic revelry, some youths of Samantarapur and Uparsahi entered into a heated argument and left the place
in fury.
Later, more than 40 youths of Uparsahi reached near Monarch Palace and ransacked a car and a van belonging to Papu Bhujabala of Samantarapur.
Soon the clash broke out between Samantarapur and Uparsahi which lasted for over 15 minutes.
Five motorcycles belonging to Uparsahi were set on fire and a youth was abducted.
Although tension ran high in the area following the clash, the police were unaware of it. On being informed, the police rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation.
“We are trying to find out the cause behind the clash and restore peace in the area. Efforts are on to rescue the abducted youth,” the police said.
