6 held 4 months after honour killing

Malkangiri: Police Wednesday arrested six persons on charge of brutally killing a lover couple of Markaguda village under Padia police limits in this district about four months ago.

The accused were identified as village head Sheikh Dullah (60), Aita Madi (50) and Kamram Mala (28) of Tegadpalli village and Madi Dula (50), Budra Madi (25) and Budra Madi (32) of Markaguda village. Efforts are on to nab others involved in the case, SDPO Madkar Sambit Sampad told media persons at the district police headquarters.

Police registered a case under several relevant sections of IPC and produced the accused in court, Sampad added.

Muka Madi (20), son of Muda Madi and Munu Madi (19), daughter of Kasha fell for each other when they had gone to work at Bhadrachalam in Telangana. Eventually, Munu got pregnant with Muka’s child. Enraged, the villagers summoned the lovers to the village and termed the relationship incestuous.

Later, they asked the two to leave the village. The couple took shelter at a place near Saberi river. However, the villagers, not satisfied with their own ruling, brought the duo to the village and paraded them naked. They even tonsured the head of the girl. When the lovers fell unconscious following the brutal treatment, the villagers threw the two in the river after stuffing them in a sack.

After a few days, the bodies were recovered by Chhattisgarh police. The case was handed over to Padia police as the incident occurred in Orissa. Following this, local police started a probe of the killing. PNN
