Kesinga: Searoi Government High school under Kesinga block in Kalahandi district is 60 years old but its infrastructure and facilities available there mock at government claims of spending crores on education.
Established August 20 in 1959, the school conducted classes for up to standard VIII till 2009 when it was upgraded and two classes were added. The strength of the school for up to Class VIII is 297 while the strength of both Class IX and X is 96 each.
As per guidelines, the school should have 12 teachers but only nine teachers are available. There are only five teachers to take classes for students up to Class VIII and four for students of Class IX and X. Two teachers’ posts are vacant for science stream and five for Hindi, arts and sports stream.
Shortage of teachers as well as classrooms has hit teaching. Besides, seven classrooms for different grades of students are in bad shape, hampering the overall standard and teaching.
Though the school committee has put these problems before the district education officer, block education officer and BDO of Kesinga, nothing has happened.
