Kendrapara, Sept 15: A 60-year-old woman of Mahakalapara block died Friday after she was beaten up, molested, paraded naked in broad daylight and then force-fed pesticide by a gang of three. According to the police, the woman, identified as Sabita Mandal, was a tea seller at Khyatriapada village in Ramnagar under Jamboo marine police limits.
“She was attacked by the trio from Sarakaripada, a neighbouring village, as she had exposed an extramarital affair between two of the accused,” Sabita’s son Basudev said in his complaint. Marine police have registered a case and launched a manhunt for the accused.
According to IIC Pradyumna Kumar Nayak, one of the accused, Chandana Mandal, a 42-year-old woman of Sarakaripada, had invited Sabita to her house Wednesday. When Sabita, a mother of six, obliged she was assaulted by Chandana, her paramour Meghanada Pal (48) and her 20-year-old daughter Kakuli.
The trio stripped Sabita, molested her and paraded her naked along a village road accusing her of exposing the illicit relation between Meghanada and Chandana to the former’s wife. The trio went on to force pesticide down Sabita’s throat and dumped her in a field nearby.
Residents of the village and members of Sabita’s family rushed her to the district headquarters hospital for treatment, but she was declared brought dead. Police have taken custody of the body for further examination and recovered the bottle of pesticide said to have been used by the accused.
