Umerkote: Yet another case of superstition came to fore Saturday after a couple of Mohabhatta village under Raighar police limits in Nabarangpur district admitted their eight-month-old baby boy to a local hospital in a critical condition.
The baby was branded by none other than its parents Rama Gond and Jayanti Gond to bring improvement in its health condition. The baby was underweight and suffering from pneumonia, paediatrician Dr Santosh Kumar Panda of the hospital said, adding it is battling for life. According to reports, the couple admitted their first issue to Hatabharandi PHC last Monday as he was underweight.
Driven by superstition, the couple branded the child with a hot iron object Friday as there was no improvement in his condition. However, the baby suffered further after the ‘therapy’. Left with no option, the couple again consulted doctors of PHC and later brought the baby to local hospital. PNN
