Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Sunday predicted light to moderate rainfall across the state till October 10.
“A cyclonic circulation persists over interior Orissa while another is active over northern parts of Gangetic West Bengal and the neighbourhood. Under its influence, heavy rainfall has occurred at some places including Bhubaneswar and Cuttack Saturday,” said Bhubaneswar Met centre director Sarat Chandra Sahu.
The two systems are active and may trigger rain in almost all places over the state till October 10, he said, adding, “Heavy rainfall may occur between October 8 and 10.”
The state, however, has recorded a deficit rainfall of 9 per cent during the rainy season concluding September 30. “Although the rainy season has receded officially, the southwest monsoon has not withdrawn from Orissa altogether. It will leave the state in the third week of October,” Sahu said.
According to the Met sources, the state has received 1052 mm rainfall in rainy season against the normal rainfall of 1150mm.
