Chhatrapur: The Indian Rare Earths (IREL) Ltd is planning to establish a theme park here on the outskirts in over 100 acres for which the Centre has sanctioned Rs 97 crore, a report said Saturday.
The matter was revealed at a tripartite meeting of IRL officials with the district administration and Gopalpur Ports held at the Collectorate Saturday. Collector Prem Chandra Choudhury presided over the meeting.
The park will organise technology related and skill development programmes at the theme park.
According to minutes of the meeting the IREL authorities decided to establish the rare earth theme park between Badaputi and Basanaputi under Kalikapalli panchayat.
The IREL decided to make use of left over land acquired for the establishment of the Gopalpur Port by the state government in this area but are adopting a cautious approach in acquiring the lands for the theme park.
Accordingly, they have reached a compromise with the port authorities to get the land for theme park, sources said. The process for establishment of the theme park was set rolling with the Centre sanctioning Rs 97 crore. The rest of the funds and technical knowhow will be provided by the Atomic Energy Commission, sources said.
The Defence Metallurgical Laboratory at Hyderabad will also chip in for establishment of the theme park and would provide assistance. PNN
