Bhubaneswar: Orissa Ranji team captain Govind Poddar and senior players Biplab Samantray, Basant Mohanty and Arvind Singh have been included in the AG Orissa team for the upcoming East Zone IA & ID cricket tournament, starting January 8. The matches will be played at the KIIT University ground and IDCO ground in Mancheswar, deputy accountant general, Jyoti Chawrasia announced in a press meet here, Friday.
Six teams will be participating in this three-day tournament. The other AG teams are from Bihar, Jharkhand, Tripura, Assam and West Bengal. The matches will be a 40 overs a side affair.
Being the finalists of last year’s tournament, AG West Bengal and AG Orissa will get a bye and will directly play in the semifinals, January 9. The AG teams of Assam, Tripura, Jharkhand and Bihar will fight it out for the other two semifinal spots. The final comes off, January 10.
“We are very happy to get Govind, Basant and Biplab in our side this time from their busy schedule. I hope that we will be able to replicate last year’s performance and win the trophy this time,” Saroj Kumar Barik, secretary general, AG Recreation Club said.
Skating trials
Roller Skating Federation of India (RSFI) will conduct a selection cum trial camp at the KIIT and KISS campuses here January 8-9 for the Orissa Speed and Roller/Inline Hockey teams which will participate in the 55th National Roller & Inline Hockey Championships at Kurukshetra, January 18-31.
Varsity tourney
Jadavpur, Durg, Diburgarh, BHU Varanasi. MG Kashi and BRA Bihar Universities won their respective table tennis team matches against Purvanhal, Bidhan Chandra Kashi, Techno India, Ravi Sankar, Manipur and Khalikote Universities respectively in the All India Inter-Zone Varsity Tournament, which was inaugurated at the KIIT University here Friday.
