New Delhi: Orissa has reported 8,749 cases of ‘missing children’ in the last five years, according to Home Ministry statistics.
As per the online tracking system since January 1, 2012, a total of 8,749 cases of missing children have been reported from various parts of the state. While the authorities were able to recover 4,325 children as of Wednesday, the remaining 4,424 have still remained untraced.
The tracking system further claims that 16,544 persons were reported to be missing from the state in the last five years. However, police have recovered 7,009 of them.
The Ministry of Women and Child Development had earlier developed web portals ‘TrackChild’ and ‘Khoya-Paya’ to track the missing and found children.
The TrackChild Portal is implemented in association with various stakeholders including Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Railways, state governments, Child Welfare Committees, Juvenile Justice Boards, National Legal Services Authority, and others and the “Khoya-Paya” has been integrated as a Citizen Corner on the TrackChild portal.
