Cuttack: The state Crime Branch (CB) Monday launched a probe into the alleged suicide of the minor gang-rape survivor in Kunduli.
The CB has formed a team to unlock the circumstances leading to the suicide of the tribal girl, who was allegedly gang-raped by four men in uniform.
The seven-member team led by SP Rasbihari Panigrahi left for Kunduli in Koraput district Monday.
According to sources, after the alleged suicide of the tribal girl a case of unnatural death was registered with the Patangi police station. Now the CB team will take over the case. A case has also been registered in the Crime Branch in this regard, said SP-1 Prasanta Kumar Jena.
The CB has collected all documents and records regarding the case. Apart from the conducting probe into the gang-rape, the team will also inquire into the reported suicide by the tribal girl.
The suicide of the minor girl had created a state-wide uproar. Two separate petitions were filed with the Orissa Human Rights Commission (OHRC) and Orissa High Court over the over the issue.
January 25, the OHRC directed the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police to submit separate reports regarding the suicide of the girl. The CB will probe the case from various angles, sources said.
Notably, the minor rape survivor committed suicide by hanging herself January 22 after allegedly being denied justice.
