Puri: Following High Court directives the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) Wednesday completed installation of steel frames at Srimandir Natamandap to strengthen the dilapidated structure.
The ASI will carry out renovation work at Natamandap after repairing the Beherana gate of the shrine by February 28.
Sources said the ASI has prepared steel frames for Natamandap by using at least 2.5 tonnes of GI pipes.
Several cracks were detected on two pillars and beams of Natamandap during a routine inspection a few days ago. Taking the issue seriously, the Orissa High Court had asked the ASI to install steel frames at the dilapidated structure immediately and file an affidavit in this regard January 31. The HC had also directed the national conservator to prepare a blueprint for complete renovation of Natamandap.
Subsequently, the ASI had presented a design for installation of steel frames at a meeting of the Chhatisha Niyog, the apex body of Srimandir servitors, January 22.
“The steel frames have been installed at Jagamohan to support its roof and reduce pressure on the pillars and beams,” said an ASI officer.
