Bhubaneswar: Several students of Utkal University agitating against the state government’s decision to set up a second campus of Rama Devi Women’s University in the Vani Vihar premises here continued their protests for the second day Thursday. They blocked the NH-16 passing in front of the main gate of the varsity campus.
The protesters, including the girl students, squatted on the NH, burnt tyres and shouting slogans urging the state government to revoke its decision to set up the second campus of the RD Women’s University.
With vehicular communication coming to a standstill in the stretches from Rasulgarh to Acharya Vihar and Rupali Square to Vani Vihar Chhak in the city, commuters had a harrowing time reaching their destinations this afternoon.
Aside from the deployment of a large police outside the campus to prevent any untoward incident, DCP Satybrata Bhoi reached the spot to pacify the agitating students. Wednesday, the students had blocked the main gate of the university by burning tyres and flaunted placards saying ‘Stop Planning To Divide Utkal Campus’.
