Cuttack: The state Crime Branch (CB) Monday issued an advisory to all superintendents of police (SPs) and deputy commissioners of police (DCPs) stressing on quick collection of evidence in sensitive cases.
The advisory said police officers investigating sensitive and high-profile cases should focus on instant collection of CCTV footages, nail clippings, fingerprints, blood stains and other such evidence from the crime scene.
“Criminals leave no stone unturned in destroying evidence. Since CCTV footages are instrumental in identifying them, the Investigating Officers (IOs) must collect footages of CCTVs installed in and around the crime scene,” the advisory said.
It added that nail clippings, fingerprints and blood stains may be considered as substantial evidence to initiate a probe in any sensitive case. These would help expedite the probe process.
Referring to the Patnagarh parcel-bomb case, the advisory read, “Though the prime accused Punjilal Meher went hammer and tongs to destroy evidence, but with a scientific approach the CB was able to achieve breakthrough in the case within a short span.”
Hence, investigating sensitive cases through scientific techniques would help crack these at early, it said. Besides, in order to frame charge-sheets within the stipulated period, the CB asked the SPs and DCPs to discuss with higher-ups and chalk out ways.
