Bhubaneswar: The capital city witnessed two bomb hurling incidents Monday night, in a fresh proof that the law and order situation is fast deteriorating here and miscreants are throwing an open challenge to the Commisionerate police.
The first incident took place near at K-6 Gajalaxmi Mandap at Kalinga Vihar near Tomando around 9pm. The second incident was reported at 11pm from Bapuji Nagar where miscreants hurled two bombs at a restaurant.
Locals said two miscreants came on a blue pulsar bike and hurled a bomb near a cable office close to the K-6 Gajalaxmi Mandap and fled the spot. The sound was so loud it spread fear in the locality. Tomando police reached the spot soon and held an investigation.
“Some antisocial elements gather there every night. Their rival group’s involvement is suspected in the bomb-hurling incident,” locals said.
Four of a gang on two bikes reached outside the restaurant in Bapuji Nagar at about 11pm. The restaurant was packed with customers. In a jiffy, the miscreants hurled two bombs and sped away, eyewitnesses said.
The bomb blasts caused a deafening sound and people nearby ran helter skelter. The impact was such the door-panes smashed and its broken pieces injured restaurant employee Rama Ballav Pattanayak. He was admitted to a private hospital.
Extortion is suspected to be the reason behind the attack.
Capital PS IIC Manas Gadnayak said it was yet to be confirmed whether bombs or stones were hurled. “We did not find nail or any other material used in bomb from the spot. The sound was caused by the smashing of the door-glasses,” he said.
