Bhawanipatna: Normal life was at a standstill after hundreds of locals held a road blockade on National Highway-26 at Koksara in Kalahandi district Wednesday morning, seeking the appointment of doctors in the Koksara Community Health Centre (CHC).
“Lack of doctors in the CHC has crippled health services in the area. We have a right to basic facilities and the absence of doctors has claimed the lives of many lives here. Even after repeated complaints, our pleas fell on deaf ears,” an agitator said.
The protesters claimed that they had met officials time and again, requesting them to appoint doctors in the CHC. They threatened to intensify their agitation if their demand was not met soon.
Vehicular traffic between Bhawanipatna and Jeypore has been massively affected. Hundreds of vehicles including passenger buses and heavy trucks were stranded on the road.
