Bhubaneswar, Feb 9: Two youths, one in his teens and the other in his early twenties, were arrested for lifting bikes here to raise money to entertain their female friends and to live an affluent life.
The fact came to fore during police interrogation of the accused identified as Kavi Kar Jena (19) and Satyaban Sethi (20).
The two were arrested by the Chandrashekarpur police during an intensive check up days before the Assembly elections when the commissionerate police received a threatening message that the chief minister’s residence and other sensitive locations would be blown up. The local police had detained the two after the duo failed to produce documents in connection with the bike they were riding. Later during interrogation in the evening, they revealed that the bike was lifted by them.
“The two told us they regularly lifted bikes to make easy money,’’ said Chandrasekharpur police station inspector-in-charge Sarat Kumar Sahoo.
The duo spent the money lavishly at bars and restaurants. A police officer told Orissa POST that the duo wore branded clothes like children of well-to-do families and presented gifts to their female friends. The youths also indulged in bike-lifting as they loved to be in the limelight among their friends sporting fashionable clothes and vehicles. They also regularly threw parties in luxury restaurants across the city.
