Bhubaneswar: D Aryan Swamy of Odisha clinched the U-16 boys’ singles title while other statemates Ashish Kumar Parida, Simran Neha Ekka and Lalit Tudu had to be satisfied with the runner-up trophies in the TAB AITA-OTA Talent Series tennis tournament which concluded at the Kalinga Stadium here, Friday.
It was an exciting all-Odisha finale between Aryan and Ashish before the former seal the title winning 6-3, 5-7, 6-4. After winning the first set comfortably, Ashish came back strongly to make score level in the second set to take the match into the decider. However, Aryan held his nerves in the final set to win the summit clash.
Meanwhile, in the U-12 boys’ singles final, local lad Lalit was no match for West Bengal’s Ethan Thai Lee as he went down 4-6, 0-6. After putting up a good fight in the first set, Lalit ran out of energy and gifted the second set as wee as the title to his opponent.
Simran, who won the doubles title Thursday, however lost the U-16 girls’ singles battle stumbling to a tame 0-6, 2-6 defeat against Taru Sai Joshi of West Bengal in the final.
