Banrapal: Police Sunday rescued a rape victim from Nalco area in Angul district and admitted her to a hospital for medical examination.
Acting on a complaint from the girl’s parents, police registered a case and launched a manhunt to nab the accused who was absconding. The incident occurred three months ago, but it came to the fore after the girl’s family found she was pregnant.
According to her family, a youth from the same locality raped the girl while the parents had gone out for work. He had threatened her with dire consequences if she revealed the matter to anyone. Fearing public stigma, the girl kept quiet.
Of late, her mother noticed changes in her behaviour. She was seen vomiting and showing other signs of pregnancy. The girl then spoke up.
Meanwhile, rumours did the rounds that the girl was in a love affair with the youth without the knowledge of her parents. He impregnated her on the promise of marriage and later dumped her.
