Digapahandi: K. Nuagaon police Monday arrested a man on charges of abducting and raping his distant relative granddaughter- a minor girl, here in Ganjam district.
The accused has been identified as Dilip Sethy of Hinjilicut area and he is said to be a distant grandfather of the child. Police have registered a case and sent both the victim and sent him to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for medical examinations.
Sethy will be produced in court Tuesday, police said.
According to police, Sethy abducted the girl May 2 and kept her at different locations where he outraged her modesty. Failing to trace the whereabouts of the minor, family members lodged a complaint after which police launched a manhunt to nab Sethy and rescue the victim.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team conducted a raid at a house and rescued the victim and arrested the accused. Further investigation is on, IIC Sujit Kumar Nayak said.
