Bhanjakia: The health department Sunday started an investigation into an incident in which a woman had allegedly delivered a baby under a bridge at Sarubila under Surkruli block in Mayurbhanj district. The incident had grabbed all major media headlines.
A special team of health officials led by ADMO of the district headquarters hospital Kasturi Mishra visited Sarubila at noon. The team asked Sharmila Tiria about the circumstances forcing her to deliver under the bridge.
According to reports, the woman told the investigating team that elephants had damaged her house and the situation compelled her to deliver the baby under the bridge.
After subjecting Tiria to inquiry for hours, the team asked some villagers about the incident. The villagers are leant to have blamed it on the local community health centre. The team also enquired about it from sarpanch Balabhadra Hambram, Zilla Parishad member Rina Tiria and samiti member Bijan Kumar Chatar.
Locals and various outfits expressed displeasure over the delayed investigation into the matter.
